Information on metal finishes

When fabricating your gates or railings, we will offer to finish the final piece in three different ways.

Red primer paint

Red primer paint is specifically made for ferrous metals. The paint adds a layer of protection to the finish and means that when the gate or railings are installed on site, they're ready for finishing in the colour of your choosing. Please note that Red Primer is not a finish coat of paint and you will need to arrange for your gates or railings to be painted as soon as possible after installation.

2

Galvanising

Galvinising is a process through which the metal will be covered in a layer of zinc. This process involves dipping the metal into a bath of molten zinc and then allowed to 'dry'. When finished, the zinc will protect the metal from rust and corrosion for up to 70 years and will have a grey or silver finished appearance.

3

Powder Coating

Powder coating is a painting process used on metals. Galvanised steel is cleaned and then electrostatic is employed to allow a powdered paint to stick to the surface. The steel is then heated to about 200°C which forces the powdered paint to fuse and leave a clean and durable finish which has a long live. Powder coating is available in a range of colours, however it is important to note that it is only available to gates or railings that have been galvanised.

Galvanising and powdercoating combined form the ultimate barrier to protect your gates and railings against the elements, giving you durability and longevity, and it is the finish that Dublin Gates recommends.
